Building Lives
People left to live on the streets often have untreated chronic mental illness, drug and alcohol dependency, serious health problems and other conditions. They utilize huge amounts of public and private resources, including emergency services and law enforcement.
The time has come to stop the revolving door of homelessness in Tulsa. It’s the right thing to do, and it makes sense for our community. We must solve the core issues of homelessness instead of simply putting a bandage on the problem. And we must provide the services that match the needs of those who are homeless.
Increasing the availability of safe, decent and affordable housing will:
- provide the opportunity to break the cycle of homelessness for those who have been living on the streets and help them reclaim their lives
- become a proactive approach to preventing current at-risk individuals and families from falling into homelessness
