Solutions
“Building Tulsa, Building Lives” will change the community focus – from simply maintaining people on the streets through food and shelter programs, to providing a permanent solution through affordable housing and support services – saving taxpayers millions of dollars in the long run.
In addition, Tulsa is in the unique position of possibly being the first city in the United States to virtually eliminate chronic homelessness. The city’s strategic plan to end homelessness is supported by:
- Seed money from:
- Maxine & Jack Zarrow Family Foundation
- Anne & Henry Zarrow Foundation
- Ruth K. Nelson Revocable Trust
- $2 million in developmental funds allocated by the State of Oklahoma
- Anticipated federal housing dollars
- Private support from community partners
With the city’s new vision and economic development projects in full force, now is the ideal time to end homelessness in Tulsa. And how this community decides to approach the concept of ending homelessness could become a model for cities across America – bringing national recognition to Tulsa.
“To accomplish this worthy goal, we need to execute the plan, not continue to dream.”
Mayor Kathy Taylor
